Mieczyslaw Stanislaw Chojko (1919 to 1978)

Chojko left Poland during World War II where he fought alongside the allied army in Italy. After the war he went to Britain where he studied at Sir John Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design where Chojko’s use of abstraction was ahead of his time.

His work demonstrates a bold use of warm, complimentary colours in turquoise, yellows and oranges. Chojko exhibited with Group 49, a group of Polish artists. Throughout his life he suffered from bouts of depression and schizophrenia. He lived for many years in London and on August 18, 1960 he is registered as an artist and woodcarver living at 37 Colville Terrace, London W11
